Here it comes, the Tim Horton’s Brier 2023 in London, Ontario! It’s sure to be 10 days of grade-A curling matches, live music, activities, and more with so much to see and do Downtown and beyond. Just beyond Downtown, in fact, just a short jaunt east on Dundas is Old East Village (OEV), one of the Forest City’s oldest main streets chock full of unique shops, restaurants, breweries, arts organizations, and the list goes on. Whether you’ll be visiting London or are all geared up to live it up in your hometown, be sure to explore the many things this town has to offer - many of which are found Only in OEV!
Dumplings! Lots of them.
One of the best ways to enjoy foods from all over the world is on the OEV Dumpling Trail where you can enjoy nine different cultural takes on everybody’s fave, the dumpling! But, the Trail boasts two locations offering dishes that can be found nowhere else in London? It’s true and it’s Nepalese momos at Momos at the Market and vegan, Korean kimchi dumplings and dumpling fried rice at Bella’s Acacia Catering!
Arts and cultural sight seeing
You can get your fill of public art murals, iconic mosaics, and sculpture by following the OEV Culture Cruise! But in particular, did you know that Sir Frederick Banting had the thought that led to the discovery of insulin on October 31, 1920 at his home right here in London? It all happened at 442 Adelaide St., which is now Banting House National Historic Site, the birthplace of insulin, Museum, right here in OEV. Stop in between draws or on a free afternoon to see where history was made.
Looking for unique keepsakes?
Never fear, OEV’s offerings will certainly help you find that perfect memento! There are so many unique shops to explore including a London icon Mystic Bookshop or the only local, independent skate shop, London Skateboard Co-Op. You can’t go wrong at the London Clay Art Centre’s store - all local, all handmade, and be sure to check out the LondonCity Store (870 Dundas St.) which features all local businesses brought to you by the magazine London Inc.! Plus, don’t miss the incredible vintage shops, clothing stores, music shops, and more!
When you need to quench that thirst…
A great way to explore everything from coffee to soda, spirits to craft beer, is on the OEV Libation District tour which features nine establishments that create their offerings on site (... perhaps work on the Libation District Passport on your stay? More info here.). Or specifically check out a few more uniquely OEV locations including London’s only two distilleries Paradigm Spirits and Union Ten as well the city’s largest cluster of craft breweries including Dundas & Sons, Powerhouse, Anderson Craft Ales, and London Brewing!
If you make the trip (and we’d encourage you to do so!), be sure to check out these and so many more incredible businesses and organizations OEV has to offer. There are so many ways to maximize your time while visiting London or attending the Brier and there’s so much more, just down the street, Only in OEV!
