Meet Alexis and Julia, the co-owners of one of OEV’s newest businesses, Market Massage Co.! This massage therapy clinic is all about meeting their clients where they’re at and making sure their experience is a good one. “We really want clients to be able to advocate for what they want and that can look different every single time,” Julia says.
Julia and Alexis are both graduates of Fanshawe’s massage therapy program. It was there, thanks to a business management course, that the idea for Market Massage Co. developed. “This has been in the back of my mind, always thinking ‘one day, one day, one day,’” Alexis says. “This (location) came up…and I thought, ‘hold on This would be such a dream, what if we just checked it out’ and we did and then here it is.”
Despite being a clinic in name, Market Massage Co. feels like anything but. The waiting room is filled with plants and comfortable furniture, and a large window lets the sun beam in, giving you a warm welcome. The treatment rooms are decorated in the same vein, with relaxing decor and colourful paint. “We don’t have to sacrifice any level of professionalism, just because we have colorful paint and brick walls,” Julia says.
Clients are able to choose from multiple types of massages, choose their own music playlist, and each step of the massage process is laid out. “Especially as a new client coming to our clinic, it's a huge goal for me that you have a full understanding of what’s happening to you,” Julia says. “I want to anticipate answering your questions before you almost even have them.”
That need to make the process clear goes further than the clinic. Home care regiments are offered after any appointments, and the co-owners are launching their own podcast to go into the “nitty gritty” of massage therapy. “We want to teach and empower people,” Alexis says. “We’re going to offer you this info, you can learn more about yourself and your body, just stay tuned for more learning!”
Market Massage Co. is open Monday to Friday from 8-4, and will be hosting their grand opening on Saturday, November 16. The first ten people to book an appointment at the opening will receive a free tote bag along with their massage!
